About

DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17TH.

In conjunction with our current exhibition Drapetomania: Grupo Antillano and the Art of Afro Cuba, we will screen a program of shorts on performers in Cuba.

KRUDAS (Opie Boero-Imwinkelried, 29 minutes) Explores the lives and work of a Cuban lesbian couple who are hip hop singers and performers. The duo Krudas addresses issues such as women’s liberation, lesbian rights, female solidarity and racism, while expressing their strong ties to their African roots.

TENGO TALENTO, YRAK DE DOBLE FILA, JENNYSELT GALATA (Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi and Clenched Fist Productions, 2014, 30 minutes) By providing portraits of various artists in contemporary Cuba in the realm of jazz, hip hop and folkloric dance, we witness the vitality, ingenuity and resiliency of the culture. Filmmaker Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi will present his films and lead an audience discussion.

All films are in Spanish with English subtitles.

This program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Drapetomania: Grupo Antillano and the Art of Afro Cuba. It is co-presented by CubaCaribe (cubacaribe.org) and Global Exchange (globalexchange.org) and made possible by the generous support of the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
