Join Nicole J. Caruth, curator of The Grace Jones Project and Shantrelle P. Lewis, curator of Dandy Lion: (Re)Articulating Black Masculine Identity, along with artist Harold Offeh, exhibiting in The Grace Jones Project, and art historian and fashion designer Erica Sewell, as they engage with the black body, queer identity and gender formation, and intersections of class, ethnicity, and ideology throughout global landscapes presented through the lenses of photography, film, and performance.
Nicole J. Caruth is a curator, writer, and cultural producer. Her writing has appeared in a range of publications including ARTnews, C Magazine, Gastronomica, Nka: Journal of Contemporary African Art, and Public Art Review. She has made contributions to exhibition catalogues published by Joan Mitchell Foundation, and The Studio Museum in Harlem, among others.
Shantrelle P. Lewis is a 2014 United Nations Programme for People of African Descent Fellow and 2012-13 Andy Warhol Curatorial Fellow. She is a U.S. based curator and researcher who travels internationally researching diasporic aesthetics, spirituality and the survival and nuances of transnational diasporan communities.
Harold Offeh's work encompasses performance, social practice, video and photography, often using humor as a means to confront the viewer with aspects of contemporary culture and history. Recently Offeh has approached the themes of service and Afro hair culture through collective live engagements with other artists, performers and community participation. He has shown widely both in the UK and abroad.
Erica Sewell is the founder of Escape Artist and has been in the global retail industry for over 15 years. She has co-curated exhibits featuring contemporary artists and directed casting and costuming for works such as “Untitled Structures” by Leslie Hewitt and Bradford Young and Creative Time’s “Funk, God, Jazz, Medicine” by Simone Leigh. Sewell has been recruiting and developing creative talent for Williams-Sonoma Inc. brands, among other projects.
