Join the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) for stimulating conversation, community-building, calls to action, and delicious food at this Global Climate Action Summit affiliate event.  Historically, the mainstream environmental movement has been largely white-led and has failed to address the concerns of black and brown communities in the U.S., which often have the most degraded environments.  In the near future climate chaos will multiply environmental instability, and these same communities are at greatest risk from its devastating effects.

This interactive workshop lead by MoAD’s Chef-in-Residence—Bryant Terry—and activist Quinton Sankofa, will center on ecological justice as it relates to empowering historically excluded and marginalized groups, particularly people of African descent.  The event will include light refreshments.

Quinton Sankofa is a change agent, activist, and non-profit management consultant. He was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. A strong work ethic with a loving and supportive family helped him navigate the challenges of racism and poverty.

He studied Urban and Regional Planning at Michigan State University and received an M.A in Community Development and Planning from Clark University. Determined to continue his social justice work, Quinton and his soul mate moved to Oakland in 2009. Since then the Town has become the place they call home and the birthplace of their first child, a smart and beautiful little boy.

Now, with over 15 years of community-based social justice work, Quinton brings an array of skills to his work, such as community organizing, development, strategic planning, and fundraising. You can find out more about Quinton's work on LinkedIn and his company website, Sirius Creativity.
