About

The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) is thrilled to announce the inaugural edition of Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week, an annual celebration that aims to illuminate the richness of the Black artist community in the SF/Bay Area. From October 1 to 6, 2024, this event will bring together institutions, galleries, creative spaces and artists to showcase the richness of the Black artist community through special programming, exhibitions, and unique engagements.

As a leading institution dedicated to the Black experience, MoAD recognizes the importance of providing a platform for Black artists to share their work, connect with the community, and gain the recognition they deserve. Nexus seeks to:

Highlight Artistic Excellence: Showcase the incredible talent of Black artists in the Bay Area, affirming their significant contributions to the art world.

Foster Community: Build a supportive and vibrant community that connects artists, curators, collectors, and art enthusiasts· Enhance Visibility: Elevate the visibility of Black art and culture, ensuring it receives the attention and appreciation it merits.

Encourage Dialogue: Create spaces for meaningful conversations about the role of Black art in society and its impact on culture and history.· Support Innovation: Provide opportunities for artists to experiment, collaborate, and innovate within their practices.

Strengthen the bridge between SF and Oakland Artist Community: By fostering collaboration and connections between artists in San Francisco and Oakland, we can create a more unified and vibrant arts scene, enhance opportunities for cross-city projects, and amplify the impact of Black art experiences in the Bay Area.
