Oakland-born, Richmond-raised, CieraJevae has a way of finding both the pendulous and praise of her upbringing. Her work gives ode to Bay Area cities and streets, and people, places, past memories still breathing. In 2017 she was selected as the first Black woman Poet Laureate of Richmond, CA. She is the published author of her new collection of poems, Unto Ivy's Rib, as well as the author of two chapbooks, Testimonies of Richmond, and Incarcerated Words. She obtained her B.A in Sociology, and her MFA in Writing. CieraJevae currently serves as the Spoken Arts Director at Ruth Asawa SOTA.
