Join us on Zoom for our monthly virtual Open Mic. Hosted by poet Nia McAllister, participate in an evening of spoken word, featuring amazing local, national, and international poets. All are welcome to either perform or just watch.

Our Featured Poet:

fahima ife creates with an ensemble of alien species and contributes to studies of (black) sound and light. She is a poet, essayist, editor, and associate professor of black studies and performance studies in the department of Creative/CRES at University of California Santa Cruz. She works in jazz, ambient, somatic, and house traditions. She studies beauty, blackness, embers, and water. They are author of Maroon Choreography (Duke University Press, 2021), the forthcoming poetry collection, Septet for the Luminous Ones (Wesleyan University Press, 2024), and other works in Kenyon Review, liquid blackness: journal of aesthetics & black studies, Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora, mercury firs, ASAP/J, The Academy of American Poets Poem-A-Day, and other places. She has performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP), and elsewhere. She is co-curatorial director of the fluid poetics studio (a listening project of the redwood forest), a contributing editor at Tilted House press, and with Ian U Lockaby, co-edits the forthcoming journal LUCIUS. She performs as young heems, a genderfluid paradox. She is gifted at being black and gifted.
